چکیده

Dense z-pinches produced by 100 ns implosions of wire arrays or gas puffs produce substantial soft X-ray power. One class of z-pinch radiation sources includes lowto moderate-atomic-number K-shell radiators, such as aluminum and iron. These loads are designed for 1–10 keV K-shell X-ray generation, and offer opportunities for crystal spectroscopy that can reveal fundamental properties of the plasma when studied using plasma spectroscopic modeling. Typically these plasmas are characterized by ion densities of 10 cm , diameters of 1–5mm, electron temperatures up to several keV, and a range of opacities of the K-shell lines. X-ray spectroscopy and spectropolarimetry of high energy density plasma complemented by LLNL electron beam ion trap experiments

X-ray spectra of high energy density ~HED! Z-pinch plasmas have been analyzed by means of a comprehensive kinetic modeling. A new diagnostic, x-ray spectropolarimetry, was applied to study anisotropy of Z-pinch plasma. This diagnostic is based on theoretical modeling of polarization-dependent spectra measured simultaneously by spectrometers with different sensitivity to polarization. Specifical...

UWFDM-1047 Diagnosing Plasma Conditions in Targets Irradiated by Intense Light Ion Beams Using K-alpha Satellite Line Intensity Ratios

The characteristics of Kα satellite line emission generated in intense light ion beam experiments are investigated. Inner-shell x-ray lines are emitted from moderatetemperature (T ∼ 10 − 10 eV) plasmas as 2p electrons of the target ions fill in K-shell vacancies created by beam ion-impact ionization. We focus in particular on the utilization of line intensity ratios from He-like and Li-like ion...

Target design for high fusion yield with the double Z-pinch-driven hohlrauma..

A key demonstration on the path to inertial fusion energy is the achievement of high fusion yield !hundreds of MJ" and high target gain. Toward this goal, an indirect-drive high-yield inertial confinement fusion !ICF" target involving two Z-pinch x-ray sources heating a central secondary hohlraum is described by Hammer et al. #Phys. Plasmas 6, 2129 !1999"$. In subsequent research at Sandia Nati...

Plasma ionization and resistivity models in application to radiative properties of z-pinches

The LTE Saha–Boltzman plasma ionization balance model and the Braginskii plasma electric resistance model are compared with the results by the suit of codes based on the average atom model, which is a quantum-mechanical version of the Temperature Dependent Thomas–Fermi Theory. The analysis is focused on low-Z Al, mid-Z Cu and higher-Z Mo plasmas in a broad ranges of electron temperature Te and ...

Z-pinch Discharge in Laser Produced Plasma

Z-pinch effects in a laser produced aluminium plasma were investigated with a relatively low current fast coaxial electrical discharge. The ion flux in the laser produced plasma (LPP) was monitored with a Langmuir ion probe and the line density was controlled by using an aperture to select the portion of the LPP which enters the discharge cell. The Zpinch dynamics were recorded using time-resol...
